Steven M. Thompson Access
to Care Internship Program
Steve Thompson believed in access to care for all Californians.
His lifelong passion was to see that health care was available
to all who needed quality medical care. To this policy end,
Steve wanted to provide a foundation of research by which
sound public policy could be affected in the state of California.
The California Medical Association has established the Steven
M. Thompson Access to Care Internship Program in honor of
Steve's 40-year career dedicated to health care policy and
his passion for improving access to medical care in California.

"His passion for health care
is like none other that we have ever seen. His
knowledge of health care is like none other
that we have ever seen. He was a premier legislative
advocate, and did for the California Medical
Association what we want legislative advocates
to do for all of their organizations, and that
is to help guide them to move beyond their special
interests."
Senator Jackie
Speier, during a legislative
tribute to Steve Thompson held on the Senate
floor.
