Since 2004, the CMA Foundation's Obesity Prevention Project has been working to reduce the prevalence of overweight and obesity in children and their families through education and community outreach, policy advocacy and the creation and dissemination of resources for health professionals. Throughout California, Physician Champions are partnering with community collaborations, schools, advocacy organizations and their peers to lead efforts to combat obesity in California.

The Obesity Prevention Project has created the Speakers' Bureau Database as a resource for linking Community Based Organizations with skilled and qualified Physician Champions. These volunteer Physician Champions are available to dedicate 1-2 hours per month to engage in community based outreach and advocacy related to obesity. The Speakers' Bureau Database also serves as a tool for connecting our Physician Champions with Community Based Organizations now searchable within their geographical locations.

Our Physician Champions are credible sources of information. These physicians are trained and prepared to speak on issues ranging from healthy eating and physical activity to overweight and obesity in children and families. Their medical knowledge coupled with the community collaboration and policy advocacy training they have received from the CMA Foundation can help community based organizations advance their community obesity prevention goals.
