(continued)
Phase I: Planning and Assessment
Goal 1: To identify key leaders, as well as
resources and barriers to building medicine, public health
and community collaborations at the local and state level
in California.
Implementation Activities:
On October 1-2, 1999 the Steering Committee produced the
conference "Building Capacity for Community Health,"
the results of which are published in this report.
The objectives of the conference included to
- Promote collaboration between local practicing physicians,
local public health practitioners, and local community leaders.
- Increase the awareness of local practicing physicians,
local public health practitioners, and local community leaders
of their common interests.
- Increase the knowledge of how to collaborate through identification
of "best practices" between public health and
medicine.
- Reach a general consensus on key concepts, such as "what
is public health".
- Disseminate information about successful local collaborative
projects that have been developed in California.
- Broaden the perspective of practicing physicians on what
their responsibilities are for improving health on the community
level.
- Encourage future collaboration on public health issues
at the local and statewide levels.
