"Proud to be Tobacco Free" Statewide Campaign

The time has come for all pharmacies and chain drugstores to stop the sale and promotion of tobacco and to start promoting good health. In 1999 the Pharmacy Partnership (now Prescription for Change) began a statewide campaign to work with pharmacists, health care providers, and consumers to support and recognizing pharmacies and chain drugstores that don’t sell tobacco products.

Here’s How the Campaign Works

Pharmacies and chain drugstores that do not sell tobacco products register with Prescription for Change (by filling out a one page faxable registration form). Once this registration form is received, each tobacco free pharmacy is sent a "Proud to be Tobacco Free" decal for their window and 100 free prescription bags.

The Database…

Each pharmacy and chain drugstore that registers is added to our statewide database. The database helps us track tobacco free pharmacies around the state and is a resource for physicians, health care advocates and consumers who want to patronize pharmacies that truly care about their customer's health. In an effort to make sure all Californians have access to this incredible resource, the list is available on the Prescription for Change web site and at the following sites:

California Pharmacists Association

California Medical Association

California Lung Association

Physicians and health care professionals who care about tobacco free community health are provided with corresponding prescription pad stickers. The stickers encourage patients to look for the "Proud to be Tobacco Free" window decal when filling their prescription. Physicians also receive a laminated card with the names and locations of tobacco free pharmacies and chain drugstores in their community.
